Bibles and Blankets Ministry:

APPEAL FOR BIBLES FOR GHANA PRISONS

bible

The Branches of the Vine in Partnership with the Anglican Diocese of Accra-Ghana West Africa is working together to provide Bibles for all prison inmates in Ghana. As Christians we are all called to make disciples "even to the ends of the earth." In many parts of the earth, Bibles are scarce or unaffordable to the average person. God has laid the nation of Ghana on our hearts, and a need has just been made known to us. Take just a moment to imagine how it would look, if each prison inmate in Ghana receives a copy of the Holy Bible. It is amazing to know what the Lord is doing through the chaplaincy of the prison service in Ghana. God is at work there. Many lives are be ing saved and the rate of re-offending has been dramatically reduced from 48% in 2004 to 26% in 2006. Inmates are being encouraged to learn at least one skill before being released, focus ing in such areas as tailoring & fabric design, auto-mechanics, ceramics, carpentry, graphics, book-binding and electrical installation/repair. As you can imagine, a prisoner in the de veloping world can hardly afford to purchase a Bible, yet if they could learn God's word, they could gain salvation and stand on God's truth. We appeal to you to help us get ONE BIBLE to each of the 12,000 prison inmates in the Ghana ian prisons. A Bible will cost approximately $10 (TEN US DOLLARS). The Goal is to provide all prisons with a Bible in their dialect . . . There are volunteers who teach prisons to read and write using the Bible . . . Bibles in Ghana are printed in English, Twi, Ga and Ewe . . . 60% of the 12,000 Prisons are Literate . . . May God richly bless you . . . Please consider making a kind donation. Make the checks payable to The Branches of The Vine

(All donations are tax deductible).

"In my name you shall cast out demons and tread upon serpents and nothing will hurt you..." It was the morning of Tuesday, October 9th, 2007 at about 10:15 am, when a team of evangelists from the USA (the Branches of the Vine) led by a Ghanaian lady, Gifty Acquaye (she has dedicated her life to the prison ministry for 10 years) from the Diocese of Accra visited the prison to present Bibles to all of the prisoners.A short church service was arranged with the inmates and during the course of the service of praise and prayer, Dr. Maria Akrofi was about to address the inmates and a prisoner came walking in. She was flanked by 2 or 3 prison guards after a second or two of silence, there was a tremendous shout of joy and many tears. She gave her testimony, which Dr. Maria Akrofi explained to us. She had been unable to walk for a long time. Finding Jesus Christ while she was in prison, it was during the prayer and praise service thatshe heard a voice telling her to get up and walk. She said it was God's voice and only he could make her walk. She also thanked the guards for who they are what they do for them, encouraging the other inmates to do so as well. The prisoners broke out in a loud song of thanks, the air in the prison was spiritually charged. After Dr. Maria Akrofi made her speech, the session ended with more praise songs. For me I could just imagine this is how it would sound when the Angels worship and praise God!
