Father Cecil:

A Call to Mission - Gods Salvation Plan for Man Kind
Text John 20:21 Supporting Passages Acts 1:7-8, Luke 4:18, Acts 16:9
Rev Father Cecil A. M. Williams

When I was in Junior High School I participate in one of the annual athletic competition organized for Junior High Schools. I was to participate in the 4x110yds relay race. The starter on our team was a sprinter, so he did marvelously well to put us in the lead, he handed the baton to me I kept the pace, but the unexpected happened the guy who collected the baton form me fell on the way so that year the team let the school down in that track event.

Text John 20:21 "Again Jesus said, 'Peace be with you! As the Father has sent me, I am sending you." The Father sent His Son Jesus Christ on a Mission (to atone for the sins of the world - the human race) to perform two tasks: 1. To atone for the sins of the world ?Äì all man kind, 2. To Preach the Good News through which all who believe shall be saved. The Lord had to do all this within the short period of time He had to spend on earth. You will agree with me this needs real planning ... Mission Need Real Planning ...

Allow me to digress a bit on the concept of missions. Its is all about sending someone to perform a particular function or to accomplish a task. This involves commitment, dedication, courage, and perseverance, obedience and love for the one who has sent. Commitment from both parties (the one sender and the servant) this is very important. So in ...

Act 1:1-8 in an answer to a question He said "But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes on you; in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth."

The power the Holy Spirit gives, brings about the creation of new things, changes our concepts, drives away FEAR and in it's place puts BOLDNESS, FAITH, ability to talk about things unknown ... The Bible says that those who believe, out of their belly will flow living waters ... The Holy Spirit...the life giving Spirit. The ability to reproduce itself ... Peter and Stephen are a few examples. It creates compassion, love, etc ...
Next after the 'Provision' He gave the missionary command "Go to the known areas, the familiar cultures, do not stop there go to the unknown and unfamiliar cultures' that is what He meant by Jerusalem, Judea, Samaria and the ends of the earth.
Who are to go on this mission, the disciples, the church and you!
What are some of the expectations of the missioners; Jesus said to Peter feed my sheep and lambs. It behooves on the missioner to love and to share what he / she has with the needy Lev 19:9-10 "do not harvest all the crops leave some for the poor" Sharing ?Äì Do not keep all that you have for yourself alone, but share with others, not only your material things like your wealth and talent, but also your spiritual gifts.

My brothers and sisters in Christ, In Act 16:9 "Paul said he saw a vision of a man who called to him to come to Macedonia to help them." Today I am standing before you, I want you to see me as the man who appeared before Paul in that vision and ask for help for the Macedonia Church. I am asking you, to come and help the Anglican Church of Ghana to reach out to the needy communities. I do not think you can afford to drop the Baton!
