Statement of Faith Essentials:
Just what is a statement of faith and what does it tell you? Does it tell you everything about a believer (a born-again disciple of Jesus Christ), an organization, a church, or denomination? Is it enough information to justify the choice to be unified with a person or group or the need to be separated when it requires spiritual involvement or partnership? It is our desire to help those who read "The Branches of the Vine Statement of Faith Essentials" to understand the fundamental nature of any fellowship that may arise from your introduction to BOV as well as what you may expect from any cooperation or involvement with this ministry in the future.
Ideally, a reasonable statement of faith is a concise declaration of the essentials of belief, often called a "creed" or "confession of faith." Any person church or group that adheres to that declaration will reflect in their world view, their teachings, and their lives the realities of that statement or creed. These beliefs are "non-negotiable." They are core biblical truths that are the basis for any degree of divinely sanctioned unity and cooperative efforts. Since The Branches of the Vine is a faith based community non-profit organization comprised of people from several denominations, we believe it is important that all who wish to participate with us understand the biblical underpinnings of our faith.
No creed can address all the actions and theological leanings that flow from any person or group but it also should leave no doubt about their foundation of faith. The Branches of the Vine now presents our Statement of Faith Essentials:
One God in Three Persons
There is one God, the Creator and Preserver of all things. He exists eternally in three persons: the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit.
The Word Of God
The sixty-six canonical books of the Bible as originally written comprise God's written Word, and hence are free from error. They are our sole authority for what we are to believe and how we are to live.
The Fall of Man
Mankind, created in the image of God, fell into sin in Adam and is now sinful both by nature and by choice, the outcome of which is eternal death. From this condition we can be saved only by the grace of God, through faith, on the basis of the work of the Son of God Jesus Christ, and by the agency of the Holy Spirit.
Redemption through Christ Alone
The eternal Son became incarnate by being born of the virgin Mary; He is both true God and true man. He lived a sinless life and died on the cross as our substitute, shedding His blood for the remission of our sins. He rose bodily from the dead and will return again bodily to complete His saving work and to consummate the plan of God.
Personal Accountability
As believers who have turned to God by faith in Jesus Christ, we are accountable to God for living a life separated from sin and characterized by the fruit of the Spirit. It is our responsibility to contribute by word and deed to the mission of the church.
The Body of Christ Mission - The Church
The body of Christ is a living organism comprised of all believers in Jesus Christ. We are to engage in the building up of the Body of Christ through the ministry of the Word, the celebration of the Lord's Supper, and the practice of Baptism. This focus on worship and fellowship within our local church should result in a visible testimony to the surrounding community in obedience to the Great Commission of our Lord. Matthew 28:19-20
The Accountability of Mankind in the Final Judgment
At the time of God's choosing, the bodies of all persons will experience resurrection: believers to the state of eternal joy in the presence of God, and unbelievers to eternal punishment.
